Description

The 7.62×39 was developed in WWII by Russia to feed their SKS rifles and later the AK47.  Subsequent adoption by China and other nations ensured a long-term life for a caliber that rivals the 5.56 in global popularity.

Most factory ammunition is produced outside of the US using steel cases with the Berdan primer system which is a combo that makes reloading those cases impossible.   Some cartridges are brass but retain the Berdan primer system which makes them reloadable but difficult.  Few reloaders find it worth the effort when the steel factory ammo is so cheap.

At Viking Brass we de-prime every case prior to wet tumbling to cull out brass with Berdan primers.

RELOADING HINT:  Many rifles chambered for the 7.62×39 have a .311 diameter bore versus the usual .308.  Reloaders should be aware of their guns bore when purchasing bullets.  Most guns will safely fire either bullet but to maximize accuracy and/or minimize wear on barrels the proper sized bullet is recommended.
