Description

The .45 Long Colt was originally developed in the 1870’s and adopted by the US Army and embraced by the civilian market.  Despite being replaced by the .38 Special and .45 ACP by the military, the .45 LC has retained a loyal following in the civilian market for cowboy action shooting, hunting and recreational shooting.

RELOADING HINT:  Because the .45 LC was originally a low-pressure black powder caliber, it has a large case volume like the .44 magnum and therefore can be reloaded with modern powder to almost match .44 magnum ballistics.  However, many revolvers chambered for the .45 LC are not designed to handle high pressure loads so reloaders must ensure that their gun is designed to handle higher-pressure loads.  Most reloading manuals will have separate loading recipes specific to the high-pressure capable guns such as Ruger Blackhawk, Freedom Arms and Thompson Contender.
