.40 S&W Pistol Brass Case

- Cases are collected from public shooting ranges.
- All orders will contain mixed headstamps including military brass that may have crimped primer pockets.
- All cases are magnetically screened, mechanically sorted and hand inspected to cull steel, aluminum and deformed cases.
- All pistol cases are cleaned by wet tumbling.
- All cases will require resizing and primer removal prior to use.
- Cases may have minor dents or imperfections. Most flaws will be removed when resized or will be shot out upon the first firing.
- Extra brass cases are included to make up for any mixed calibers (usually 9mm), unusable pieces or other defects that may slip through our screening process.
- Brass is sold as-is.
Description
After the bloody 1986 Miami Shootout the FBI realized that their agents armed with revolvers and 9mm pistols were being outgunned by the bad guys. The FBI worked with Smith & Wesson and others to develop the .40 S&W to level the playing field. Many LEOs and the civilian market followed the FBI’s lead, and with gun manufacturers able to adopt existing 9mm platforms the .40 S&W became very popular in the 90’s.
After 20+ years of real-world data, statistics revealed the .40 S&W only marginally better than the 9mm. The improvement of 9mm ammo ballistic performance (better expansion and penetration) in recent years has led the FBI, and many LEOs and civilians to gravitate back to the 9mm. But because there are so many .40 S&W pistols still available the caliber will likely be around for many years.
RELOADING HINT: Early generation Glocks in .40 S&W did not fully support the case resulting in the “Glock bulge”. Some dies may not fully remove this bulge which can result in failure to chamber in some pistols. Reloaders should carefully inspect once fired brass before and after resizing to ensure that the case will chamber in their gun.
