Description

The .300 Blackout was developed in 2010 to provide shooters with a .30 caliber cartridge that could be used with existing AR15 lowers and magazines by simply replacing the barrel or upper.  Since the AR platform uppers are not serialized, shooters can simply replace the .223 upper with a .300 BLK in a couple of minutes without tools.

Where the .300 really shines is with suppressors.  The caliber can be downloaded to subsonic speeds using heavy bullets to almost Hollywood quietness.

RELOADING HINTS:  A lot of brass used the first few years after the 2010 debut were converted from .223/5.56 brass.  This brass usually works fine but some ARs may not cycle them as smoothly as factory .300 BLK brass.  Using a small base sizing die will usually cure the problem but make sure you lube the case well before resizing.  We like to use a Wilson cutaway gauge to check each reload.

Some subsonic loads can cause AR cycling issues due to insufficient gas pressure and volume.  Especially without a suppressor or if using the wrong powder and/or light weight bullets.  We have found that Accurate 1680 is the most reliable powder along with H4198, IMR4227 and H110.  There are probably others but these 4 have worked for us consistently with and without a suppressor for any bullet heavier than 190g.  If you have a .300 BLK bolt action, there is almost no limit to the powder and bullet combos you can load.

Heavier coated bullets can be found at a reasonable price versus full metal jacket but require a slight belling of the brass prior to seating the bullet.  Otherwise, you risk scraping the coating which can increase potential leading in the barrel.
