.38 Special Pistol Brass Case

- Cases are collected from public shooting ranges.
- All orders will contain mixed headstamps.
- All cases are magnetically screened, mechanically sorted and hand inspected to cull steel, aluminum and deformed cases.
- All pistol cases are cleaned by wet tumbling.
- All cases will require resizing and primer removal prior to use.
- Cases may have minor dents or imperfections. Most flaws will be removed when resized or will be shot out upon the first firing.
- Extra brass cases are included to make up for any mixed calibers, unusable pieces or other defects that may slip through our screening process.
- Brass is sold as-is.
- Orders may contain .357 Mag brass due to the similarity in size and
appearance. The total amount of 38 Special brass should still be equal to or greater than the amount ordered due to inclusion of extra casings.
Description
The .38 Special was adopted by the Army in the late 1890’s to replace the low velocity .38 Long Colt. However, the .38 Special ballistics were still lacking and the Army soon moved on to the Colt 1911 magazine fed pistol using the .45 ACP caliber. Despite the abandonment by the Army, the post WWI LEO and civilian markets embraced the .38 Special and it remained the standard LEO handgun choice until the 9mm replaced it in the mid-80s.
The caliber remains popular in the civilian market for self-defense and target shooting.
RELOADING HINT: .38 Special case length is close enough to the .357 magnum to get mixed up so reloaders should be careful if any .38 Special cases are mistakenly loaded with high pressure .357 loads. The cartridge will fire safely in a .357 magnum revolver but could be dangerous if inadvertently loaded into a .38 Special revolver so inspect your cases prior to reloading.
One of our favorite plinking rounds is a 148g DEWC on top of a low charge fast pistol powder like Bullseye, Tight Group or AA No. 2. Incredibly accurate with low recoil and one of the cheapest cartridges you can reload.
