Description

The 9mm Luger (aka Parabellum) was developed for the German military in 1902 and has become the most popular center fire caliber in the world with over 60% of LEOs and militaries in the world now using it for their small arms caliber.  The 9mm’s low cost, ballistic performance, low recoil, and large magazine capacity made it a logical choice for adoption by LEOs, militaries and civilians.

The 9mm popularity in the US really took off in the 80’s with advent of the “wonder nines” (think Glock 17) which were adopted by many LEOs to replace their limited capacity revolvers and by the US military to replace their aging 1911 Colt inventory.  This popularity has led to tremendous economy of scale for ammo producers and at times has made factory ammo almost as cheap as reloading.  This high volume of ammo production provides civilian reloaders with a ready supply of once-fired brass available at a very low cost.  Many used brass component suppliers are literally selling 9mm brass at scrap prices.

RELOADING HINT: Because the 9mm case has a slight taper, it can be surprisingly difficult to resize some headstamps and/or on some presses and dies.  We have found that a light spray of brass with lubricant (Hornady One Shot or a lanolin/alcohol mixture) on a large cookie sheet can make the resizing stage much smoother.

Bulk Orders:  Viking Brass can offer bulk orders for 9mm with reduced pricing.  Pease contact us directly to inquire about quantities and pricing.
